Childbirth services from Lohja Hospital will relocate to other HUS maternity hospitals–patients giving birth will be admitted to Lohja Hospital until November 27, 2024, 8 a.m.

Patients coming in to give birth will be admitted to Lohja Hospital until November 27, 2024, 8 a.m. Gynecological and obstetric emergency clinic and wards will close on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Childbirth services, postterm check-ups, and obstetric emergency care will permanently transfer from Lohja Hospital to other HUS maternity hospitals, which are the Women’s Hospital, Espoo Hospital, and Hyvinkää Hospital. At the same time, the gynecological emergency care and surgeries, which are tightly connected to childbirth services, will transfer from Lohja to the Women’s Hospital.

The relocation will progress gradually, so that patients giving birth will be admitted to Lohja Hospital until November 27, 2024, 8 a.m. Gynecological surgeries will continue until November 29, 2024, 9 a.m. Emergency care in gynecology and obstetrics admits patients until November 29, 2024, 1 p.m. Gynecological and obstetric emergency clinic and wards will close on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. Patients, whose treatment is ongoing at that time, will be transferred to the Women’s Hospital.

In future, Lohja Hospital will provide locally accessible services in gynecology and obstetrics. These services will be gynecological and maternity outpatient clinic appointments. Ultrasound screenings, fear of childbirth appointments, and newborn check-ups will be possible at the maternity outpatient clinic in future as well. Examinations, hysteroscopies and colposcopies will be possible at the gynecology outpatient clinic.

The options and solutions concerning the staff at Lohja Hospital childbirth services have been negotiated with the trade unions during the co-determination negotiations, which cover the entire HUS staff. The last round of negotiations took place on November 15. 

Practical matters concerning the staff at Lohja childbirth services were discussed immediately after the co-determination negotiations. HUS has already started discussions with the staff members on their opinions on their future work locations, as agreed with the chief union representatives. 

HUS aims to make decisions concerning the co-determination negotiations at the end of November. The aim is to make the decisions concerning the staff at Lohja childbirth services by the end of this week.
