HUS's new cardiac unit will improve cardiac patients’ access to treatment in Central Uusimaa
Keywords:HUS Heart and Lung Center has opened a new cardiac unit in Hyvinkää Hospital. The cardiac unit improves access to treatment for cardiac patients and brings university hospital services closer to residents of Central Uusimaa. With the new unit, we can perform significantly more cardiological examinations and procedures with a wider selection. The new cardiac unit has already treated its first patients this week.
The cardiac unit’s new facilities include a modern procedure room designed for cardiac examinations and treatment. The most common procedures performed at the cardiac unit are coronary angiography, coronary balloon angioplasty, and pacemaker implantation. Echocardiography can be performed in the unit's observation room on patients arriving for procedures.
Thanks to the new facilities, the patient's entire clinical process can be streamlined, and treatment can be provided close to where the patient lives. Patients can also be referred to the new cardiac unit from outside HUS on the basis of freedom of choice.
Providing a wide range of high-quality care for cardiac patients
Hyvinkää Hospital has been implanting permanent pacemakers for slow heart rate for several years. The new cardiac unit is a fully fledged catheterization laboratory.
“The opening of the new cardiac unit is the result of years of preparation. It serves to strengthen Hyvinkää Hospital’s operations and its ability to offer a wide range of cardiac care,” says Jyri Lommi, acting director of Heart and Lung Center.
Patients will receive high-quality care at the Hyvinkää Hospital cardiac unit. The Heart and Lung Center organizing the care has achieved the Magnet recognition for nursing excellence, which means that the quality of nursing and patient and staff satisfaction have been proven to be at an excellent level both nationally and internationally.
Patients come to the cardiac unit for examinations and procedures referred by primary healthcare physician, a cardiologist, or an inpatient ward. Private physicians can also refer a patient for cardiological examinations and treatment through the HUS referral central. Patients in need of urgent care, such as patients with acute myocardial infarction, come to the cardiac unit via the emergency department and inpatient ward.
