Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgery Outpatient Clinic, Oak Hospital
Keywords:At the Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgery Outpatient Clinic in Oak Hospital, we examine and treat diseases and injuries of the anterior segment of the eye. Our unit also houses the Eye Bank.
We are responsible for the examinations, diagnostics and surgical treatment of corneal diseases, as well as refractive surgery.
The Eye Bank harvests corneas and prepares them for transplantation
In the Eye Bank, we recover and prepare corneas to be used in transplantation surgery.
In the Eye Bank, we ensure that there are high-quality and safe corneal grafts available for corneal transplantation patients. The majority of corneal transplantations in Finland are carried out at HUS, where patients are referred for treatment also from other wellbeing services counties outside Uusimaa.
Our nurses book an examination appointment prior to the transplantation for the patients on the waiting list for a corneal transplant and also schedule the surgical procedure. Those on the corneal transplant waiting list may inquire about time estimates for their surgery from the Eye Bank.
The Eye Bank cooperates with HUS Organ Transplantation Network. The Eye Bank is subject to authorization by Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea, which includes monitoring with regular inspections. The Eye Bank complies with the Act of the Medical Use of Human Organs and Tissues and Fimea's instructions
