Meilahti Intensive Care Unit, Modules A-E

Keywords:

In the Meilahti Intensive Care Unit, we treat intensive care patients from all specialties. Modules A-E are located in the Bridge Hospital.

In the Bridge Hospital's intensive care area, we have 59 patient beds in five units. Our units A–E each have 8–15 patient beds.

Our sixth unit, Module M2, is located on the 2nd floor of Meilahti Tower Hospital. Follow-up appointments after intensive care are held there.

We treat patients in need of intensive care in all specialty fields, excluding pediatric patients and burn injuries. Intensive care for pediatric patients is primarily arranged in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at New Children’s Hospital and intensive care for burn injuries is provided on Ward U2 at Jorvi Hospital.

Intensive care is about multiprofessional cooperation: a specialist trained in intensive care is in charge of the care, in collaboration with specialists from many different fields, specializing physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, secretaries, and medical equipment technicians and hospital cleaners. If the patient or their loved ones are in need of advice from other special workers, such as a social worker, patient ombudsperson, hospital chaplain or other religious representative, their contact information is available through the patient’s intensive care nurse.

As part of the university hospital, our ward is also a place that provides training. We conduct medical and health-science research in order to develop the care of our patients.

An individual daily schedule is formed for each patient based on the treatment, examinations, and procedures they require.

Visiting the intensive care unit

Visiting hours on our ward are not limited to certain hours. Due to the nature of our work, we hope that only those nearest to the patient will visit on the ward, and that the visit would not stress the patient (duration 15–30 minutes). It is a good idea to notify of your visit in advance, so that we know to be there to greet you. At night, visits can be arranged in special situations.
